Interfaith symposium tackles religious understanding


THE CULTURAL SECTION of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran-Manila and De La Salle University held their 4th Interfaith Symposium with the central theme, "Religion, Awakening and Growth" at the Natividad Fajardo Auditorium on March 8, 2012.

This symposium aims to share knowledge on the different faiths and grow in understanding among the various believers, as the theme states.

There were eight (8) speakers who participated in this event, namely: Hon. Alfonso Tagliaferri (First Secretary - Deputy Head of Mission, Italian Embassy) and Dr. Saga Mabining (Judicial Division Chief, COMELEC). From the Episcopal Commission on Interreligious Dialogue, CBCP, two presented their papers: Fr. Carlo Reyes (Executive Secretary) and Rev. Fr. Richard Babao. 

Two representatives from Al Mustafa International College-Manila were Dr. Sayyed Hashem Moosavi (President) and Dr. Mohammad Ali Savadi (Research Deputy). Two faculty who also read their papers from DLSU's Theology and Religious Education Department (TRED) were Dr. Eduardo Domingo (Full Professor; Chair) and Dr. Lolita Castillo (Asst. Professorial Lecturer)

Br. Bernard S. Oca FSC (DLSU's Vice Chancellor for Lasallian Mission and Alumni Relations) gave his opening remarks, while Hon. Hossein Divsalar (Cultural Counselor, Iranian Embassy) his welcome message. H. E. Asiasghar Mohammadi (Ambassador, Iranian Embassy) delivered his keynote address and Prof. Lysander Rivera (Assistant Professor, TRED) his closing remarks.
