DLSU awards college scholarships to 50 public school students

DE LA SALLE UNIVERSITY presented last April 25, 2012 50 public school students who will receive full college scholarships from the University.

The grant comes from the Vaugirard Scholarship Program, established by DLSU last year to provide 50 scholarships annually for students who graduated from Philippine public high schools.  The initiative provides an opportunity for the students to access any baccalaureate degree at DLSU.


Apart from full waiver of tuition, miscellaneous, and other fees, scholars will receive a monthly stipend to cover accommodation, meals, transportation, and book expenses.

2012 Japan Institute of International Affairs (JIIA) Fellowship Grant: Call for Application

The 2012 Japan Institute of International Affairs (JIIA) Fellowship grant is now open for applications. Interested parties are urged to send their application directly to the Japan Institute of International Affairs in Japan.

2012 JIIA Fellowship Program

1. Purpose

The Program awards fellowships by invitation to young scholars and analysts to conduct advanced research at JIIA. 

2. Applicants

Scholars and researchers in the field of international political and security issues who work in institutes, think tanks, and universities

3. Duration 

Up to six months (between October 1, 2012 and March 31, 2013)

4. Eligibility 

(1) We will invite a fellow from ASEAN, CIS, Middle Eastern, or neighboring countries this year.
(2) Applicants must be scholars and researchers in the field of international political and security issues, and be at least Master’s degree holders or Ph.D. candidates 
(3) Applicants must be no more than 45 years of age.
(4) Persons who either previously received a JIIA Fellowship or who presently reside in Japan are not eligible.
(5) Applicants should currently be employed (applicants should get advance permission to be absent from their offices).
(6) Applicants should have the ability to write their reports in English or Japanese.
(7) Applicants must be in good health.
(8) In principle, applicants must be able to stay continuously in Japan during the term of the fellowship.

AKI Research Grants 2012-13: Poverty Research & Food Research

DESCRIPTION
The Angelo King Institute invites empirically-based research proposals on: (i) Poverty Research using the Community-Based Monitoring System Data Sets and/or Annual Poverty Indicator Survey, and (ii) Food Research. These proposals must be implemented over a six-month timeframe

The output must include the full research paper, presentation in a lecture series and as well as a three-to four-page policy paper, to be published by the Institute as an AKI Policy Brief (ISSN 2094-3342).

ELIGIBILITY
An applicant for the Research Grants is open to all full-time faculty members of De La Salle University-Manila.

AWARDS
Five proposals will be selected for the Poverty Research Grant and shall each be awarded PHP100,000 each. Another five proposals will be selected for the Food Research Grants, each amounting to PHP100,000. All grants will be selected by a review committee of the Angelo King Institute.

Dr. Josephine Borja, new PIChE Fellow

THE TITLE "FELLOW" of the Philippine Institute of Chemical Engineers (PIChE) was conferred on Chemical Engineering Associate Professor Dr. Josephine Borja during the 73rd PIChE National Convention held last February 2012.

The exclusive title of PIChE Fellow is given to a Filipino chemical engineer who has distinguished himself or herself in the practice of chemical engineering and service to PIChE, and who shall serve as a model and inspiration for all PIChE members to follow.

Engineering faculty to present in UN sustainability confab

INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING Professor Dr. (Anthony) Shun Fung Chiu is set to be a part of the Philippine delegation to the Rio+20 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development this coming June 2012 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The conference, which marks the 20th anniversary of the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development and the 10th anniversary of the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg, aims to secure renewed political commitment for sustainable development, assess the progress to date and the remaining gaps in the implementation of the outcomes of the major summits on sustainable development, and address new and emerging challenge.
