DLSU hosts "Encuentro X," a global meet of Lasallian leaders

PRESIDENTS, chancellors, and top administrators from 43 Lasallian institutions in 16 countries gathered together here in the country for the 2012 conference of the International Association of Lasallian Universities (IALU) held at the Intercontinental Hotel Manila on February 27-29, 2012.

Dubbed as Encuentro X, the conference carried the theme “Lasallian Higher Education in a Knowledge Society: Challenges and Opportunities from a Comprehensive and Sustainable Human Development Approach."

The conference consisted of several plenary and concurrent sessions with topics such as "The Lasallian tradition towards the demands of the current society" and "Assessing higher education, sustainable development, and knowledge societies."

Superior General of the Brothers of the Christian Schools Br. Alvaro Rodriguez Echeverria FSC and Coordinator of the World Bank's network of tertiary education professionals Jamil Salmi were among the keynote speakers in the conference.

During the conference, members of IALU that were in attendance re-elected Br. Carlos Gomez FSC of Universidad de La Salle-Bogota and Mr. Philippe Choquet of Institut Polytechnique LaSalle Beauvais as President and Vice President of IALU, respectively.

The Encuentro X conference was organized by De La Salle University in collaboration with De La Salle College of Saint Benilde, De La Salle University-Dasmariñas, and De La Salle Health Sciences Institute.
